Write a 400- word career narrative in response to your job posting, using information and language relevant to the job ad. The narrative should be about 1.5-2 pages double-spaced.
Audience: The narrative is pitched to the recruiter of the company/organization. Make sure you are talking to the audience who will be reading the text as “you.” No other “you” is relevant. Control the “you.”
Your narrative must be relevant to organizational job posting and company needs: experience, goals, organization values and skills.
Assume that you are in the last year of your program looking for a job.
Underline keywords stating key skills and job wording in narrative.
Underline keywords stating key skills AND job wording in narrative.
Do NOT use a tech skill.
Create meaningful, organized, readable paragraphs.

Writing the narrative
Include a header with your name.
Give the narrative a title: State organization’s name and job position you’re responding to, correctly.

Answer the following questions in logical sequence. Write clear, correct paragraphs.

Your first sentence is: I am qualified for the position of _________________________ because of (state relevant skill+ experience). This should be one sentence stating the top ONE of your two declared skills and workplace or other experience that resulted in that skill.
Follow up your first sentence with explanation of experience
Explain your educational path and work experience in opening paragraph:
Describe your educational path in a sentence or so.
What is your most recent workplace experience? What do you do where? Be specific.
What are your short-term and long-term career goals relevant your profession or target organization? (Where do you hope to be in your field in five years? Be specific but relevant to job posting)
Using the STAR method, generate three stories of skills and values with relevance to job ad.
Two stories MUST illustrate your relevant work skills (TWO relevant skills that responds to the language of the job posting in each story).
Both skill stories should follow the STAR format.
One story should illustrate a key value relevant to your job posting, target organization and how it shaped your decision making in the past. You can use a personal story here.

Concluding sentences: Cite some language from organization’s posting and respond to it explaining your relevance: Example: “Your posting says that and… I am this, so …..

Write out stories that you are comfortable with sharing/proud of sharing because your narrative would be the basis of how you would respond to possible interview questions in the future.
