Website Design

A new application/website that allows users to upload photos and tag people in them. Using advanced algorithms and image recognition, the system will automatically link each person’s social media profiles and post messages with links to the pictures. This is the base description of what the application/website should be. You be asked later to describe other functionality the application should have.

Part 1 (5 points)

Choose a name for the new application/website. Be creative with the name and be sure not to use the name of current popular applications.

Deliverable Part 1: Type the new application/website at the top of your document.

Part 2 (30 points)

Choose if you want to design a mobile application or website.

As you decide, think about the functional requirements of the site (what you want it to do) and the characteristics of your users. You’ll be more formal about the requirements process later on, but thinking concretely about these issues now will help you reach an informed agreement on what type of modality (mobile application or website) you want to design.

Deliverable Part 2: In at most half a page, describe your site (10 points) and summarize its additional broad functional requirements, beyond wants in the description (10 points) and the characteristics of the users you expect (10 points). You’ll be doing this more thoroughly in the next part; you might think of this as an abstract or executive summary.

Part 3 (45 points)

Determine and describe your stakeholders and user requirements for your website.

Consider the issues we’ve covered: Who are the users? What is their age, experience, familiarity with the site or the tasks or the subject matter? Are there other stakeholders to consider as you design the site?

You should talk to 2-3 potential users (e.g., in informal conversations, or with a questionnaire, or with a focus group).

Use the information you gain and your own knowledge to develop the set of functional, data, and usability requirements for your website.

Deliverables Part 3:

A description of your direct and indirect stakeholders(10 points) (half page). Note – the stakeholders include more than just the end-users
A description of your user investigation and what you learned about them and their requirements (20 points) (half page).
You would want to include the method you used to gather information
How many people went through this process?
What questions did you ask the potential users? etc.,
A description of your functional requirements(5 points), data requirements (5 points), and usability requirements (5 points); should describe what your website/application will do and what your design goals are (1-2 pages).
