Write a first draft of your research paper. The first draft should be 3,000-3,750 words (approximately 12-15 pages if the template is used correctly), not including the required bibliography and cover page. Be sure to include the following:
Affirm your thesis on the approved topic you have selected.
Identify key facts (dates, individuals, places) associated with the war/revolution and their significance.
Explain the political, economic, or military history relevant to the war/revolution and thesis.
Compare and contrast patterns of historical events and themes, including causes, effects, and comparisons.
Demonstrate use of relevant and appropriate research, reflecting ethical standards in the discipline of history, to validate ideas and support claims.
Cite and reference 15-20 sources to support your thesis. Use only sources found in the GCU Library, those provided in Topic Materials, or recommended by the instructor.
The grading standards will be as rigorous as those set for the final research paper. Be careful to proofread and edit the first draft to the quality of a final draft.
The instructor will provide feedback, but continue to edit for clarity, coherence, argument, and historical interpretation throughout the duration of the topic.
