How does the mentor role differ from the facilitator role in an organization? Explain.

According to Quinn, Bright, Faerman, Thompson & McGrath 2015 a mentor is, “a trusted counselor or guide-a coach.” In addition, a mentor works exclusively with a mentee creating an individual relationship. They offer different types of advice, provide emotional support, and assist their mentee in setting and achieving goals. It is also worth noting that mentors can form both formal and informal relationships. This claim is supported by Fowler, Gudmundsson & O’Gorman 2007 who explain that, “mentoring relationships are part of structured programs that have specific expectations and guidelines: others are more informal.”
A Facilitators role in an organization differs from mentors because the experience is not individualized. Therefore the facilitator typically works with a group and focus on getting groups to accomplish goals. According to Brockett 1983, “Your key responsibility as a facilitator is to create the group process and an environment in which it can flourish, and to help the group reach a successful decision, solution or conclusion.”
