Research Paper 1 Instructions
In conjunction with Module/Week 3 of this course, you will be required to draft 1 short research paper. The paper must be at least 500 words (not including the title page and bibliography), in current Turabian format, with default margins and in 12-pt. Times New Roman font. Each paper must include citations (footnotes or endnotes) to adequate sources supporting and/or illustrating your positions. A minimum of 3 sources are required. Each paper must include a title page and bibliography in current Turabian format.
Do not let the short length requirement of this paper mislead you. Concise writing is often more demanding than expansive writing. The goal of this paper is not merely to offer your opinion or subjective discussion of the topic, but rather to provide a concise, well-supported analysis of a fundamental question: What role does religion, morality, and worldview play in the creation of public policy?
This is an open research project, meaning that you are expected to use and cite support outside of the class readings. Superficiality is a danger with this topic as it would be easy to write two pages without reaching the substance of the discussion. Better papers will show not only a grasp of the abstract aspects of this question but an understanding of its practical implications.
Class: CJUS 610:
Think about two environments you have experienced.
- The first environment is one that did not confront the brutal facts, where the people (and the truth) were not heard.
- The second environment is one that did confront the brutal facts, where people had a tremendous opportunity to be heard.
What accounts for the difference between the 2 environments? If you do not have this life experience you are not off the hook—you will need to interview a leader who has these experiences and report on that. What does the contrast teach us about how to construct an environment where the truth is heard? Using strong Biblical support, explain how you relate this to your Christian Worldview. Does your Christian Worldview help you develop this environment? How does this relate to the ethical components of the Meese and Ortmeier text?

Servant Leadership Project Instructions
Based on your original definition of leadership, the assigned readings, and any other related readings, what are some of the major traits of a leader? Study servant leadership. What are the major traits of servant leadership? Specifically compare and contrast the traits of the first question (Good to Great textbook, Good to Great Policing, and the Meese text) with the traits of servant leadership. What would it look like to bring the notion of servant leadership to a police organization? Would this change require a cultural change? What would be the benefits and pitfalls of servant leadership in a police organization? Outline a brief plan of implementing the change necessary to apply the ideas of servant leadership in a police organization.
You must accomplish this in no less than 8–10 pages. The project must use current APA style, and the page count does not include the title page, abstract, reference section, or any extra material. In order to incorporate a solid Christian worldview, you must use10–15 sources with at least 1 source being the Holy Bible.
