Ashford 6: – Week 5 – Discussion 1
Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Reference the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.
POST
Bernoff and Li, authors of the book Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies describe the groundswell as a phenomenon that is not a flash in the pan, but an evolving world where people are acting out their internal desire to connect in an ever-increasing collaborative virtual world. Bernoff and Li also share that “groundwell thinking is like any other form of complex thinking – it takes knowledge, experience, and eventually, enlightenment to get there (pg. 17)”. What is this enlightenment you might ask? How do educators leverage social technologies like social networking for learning?
Consider this POST model:
People–what you think your clients or associates will do online.
Objectives–what your goals are and what you hope to achieve with your clients or peers.
Strategies–what you want to change and how to go about it.
Technologies–what kind of network, blog, wiki, etc. that you will use as the venue or whether you want to start something new.
Now, imagine you are developing an online course for students entering their senior year in high school. Your goal is to have them develop and utilize a social network to raise money for a noble cause. Use the POST model to share with your peers how you would address each area – people, objectives, strategies, and technologies – to accomplish your goal of raising money for a noble cause.
Respond to at least two of your peers posts with suggestions on how they can further elaborate on their post strategies.
