hoose ONE question, answering it in 3 1/2-5 pages. Make sure to cite your sources (especially considering this is a Primary Source centered question!)
In text citation is to be MLA style, i.e. (Boatwright 2011, 52) or (Augustus, Res Gestae, 25). Assignments that do not have in-text citation as well as a Works Cited page will receive a “0” grade. Your submission must use at least two (2) secondary sources (i.e. articles/textbooks of an academic caliber) and one (1) primary source (i.e. a source written at the time such as Livy, Caesar, Polybius, etc.).

- From what you have read in the lectures as well as the textbook and sources, assessments of Tiberius’ reign, while having some positive qualities, are decidedly mixed. What are some of the positive qualities asserted by historians such as Paterculus? Why are historians such as Tacitus and Suetonius so negative towards his reign?
- Did Augustus “restore the Republic?” Explain with regards to his First and Second Settlements, as well as his efforts at propaganda and morality laws.
- EXTRA CREDIT (This will be used to help out with your other assignments, and will be graded out of 15 points): In his Res Gestae Divi Augusti, Augustus lists his accomplishments from his rise to prominence in 44 BC to the end of his time as emperor? Can you list some of his positive accomplishments? That being said, what parts of his autobiography has he “spun” to show him in a favorable light? Read the excerpt from Suetonius’ Life of Augustus. How does this excerpt compare with that of the Res Gestae? Do you think this behavior related somewhat to his positive accomplishments while he was emperor? Make sure to cite at least 4 or 5 specific examples at length from both Augustus’ autobiography as well as Suetonius’ Life of Augustus when answering this question!
